Desire Tree International derives its name from a Sanskrit term: ancient texts refer to a magical Desire Tree (the Sanskrit term is kalpa taru) that can fulfill anyone’s desires. Nature itself can be likened to a Desire Tree, providing the necessities for comfortable, peaceful, and healthy lives. Our priorities at Desire Tree International are both to provide others with the simple gifts from nature and to assist people in attaining a healthier lifestyle. Although most food companies spend a large portion of their revenue on advertising, we focus on increasing the quality of our products and providing more information for our customers. Whatever we get, we try to give back with increased value. That is how the Desire Tree works. If we take the gifts graciously, we receive unlimited benefits.
The majority of prepared foods are far removed from the actual ingredients provided by nature. Packages bearing “all-natural” labels frequently reveal long lists of ingredients that could make one run to a dictionary or a scientific journal. Therefore, our primary objective is to remain wholesome and basic-the simpler the better; in keeping with that priority, we chose to make our bars GMO-free.
Our second goal is to remind people that choosing nature’s simple, satisfying foods is imperative to leading a healthier lifestyle. With obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and high blood pressure on the rise, people need to eat better quality foods.
How it Started
A small group of health-conscious friends were gathered in their kitchen in Dallas, Texas. All of us were tired of the dry, bland taste of health bars and repulsed by the additives and refined sugars in most snack bars. We decided to come up with a bar that would combine only simple, fresh ingredients. The increasing awareness of celiac disease inspired us to make the bars gluten-free.
Cashew Almond Pineapple was the first flavor we developed. We first lightly roasted our nuts at 220 degrees just enough to break down the enzyme inhibitors.Then we combined the three primary ingredients and mixed them with dates, brown crisped rice and Gluten free oats; we then added raw local unprocessed honey to hold the dry ingredients together. We pressed the mixture into a tray, put it in the dehydrator, and cut the mixture into bar form. After a few attempts, we arrived at the right proportion of ingredients and the perfect taste: neither too sweet, nor too bland, neither too soft nor too crumbly. Coming up with ideas for other flavors was, and still is, a challenging and enjoyable experience, but taste-testing our recipes is certainly a favorite activity among our staff!
Business has grown over the past five years. Due to encouragement from the public and success in sales, our bars are now sold in health food stores all over the United States. Wonderbars are now made in a small facility in Dallas, Texas rather than in the home kitchen in which we began; most of the production process is still done by hand and Wonderbars are still made in small batches on a weekly basis. Each member of Desire Tree International’s management and staff is dedicated to providing healthy, simple, and truly all-natural snacks.
Looking Ahead
Desire Tree International is currently in the process of developing other healthy snacks, including one line of bars containing chocolate and another incorporating herbs to provide specific health benefits for the body and mind. Our goal will remain the same for all of the new products we create: to provide snacks that are as simple, fresh, and tasty as possible.
